Amazon are stepping up efforts to ensure that retailers trading on the platform respond to buyers email within 24 hours. However it’s generating complaints from sellers that they’re being forced to work seven days a week.
In truth this is probably going to hit larger merchants harder – small retailers often routinely deal with emails seven days a week anyway, but the corporate high street retailers don’t generally have admin staff working on Sundays and often not on Saturdays either. You won’t be able to knock off work at Saturday lunchtime and not worry about your online sales until Monday morning, at some point on Sunday you’ll have to check your Amazon messages and respond to them to ensure your account is safe.
So why not going on Auto-responders ?
Nobody likes to receive an automatic response to their email. It’s frustrating for anyone to take the time to craft a message and end up relegated to a computer script. That said, sometimes auto-responders are useful and have their place. Here’s how to use them effectively so you get your message across without being annoying.
I am sure you have seen this advice on how to set up your auto responder
Your automatic response is going to be sure to annoy if it tells the recipient something they already know or could easily assume. Here are a few phrases you’ll want to avoid:
Avoid the Obvious
- I have received your email
- I will read your email as soon as possible
- Thank you for your message
- Please expect a response within 24-48 hours
Appeal to the Recipient’s Good Nature
Be Brief and to the Point
That’s really all you need. If you accomplish that, you’ve done your job. It’s already significantly less annoying thanks to its brevity. If you can appeal to the good nature of the recipient or make them laugh as well, then you might actually have an auto-response that someone nearly enjoys. While it’s best to avoid using auto-responders whenever possible, there are times when you have to use them. So long as you take the care to craft a message that isn’t obnoxious, they won’t be so bad after all.
